Kyoto Day One

Toji Temple Pagoda. The tallest Pagoda in Japan. South of the Kyoto train station and just a short walk from the Ryokan in which we stayed. [Hint: Want to know just how tall the pagoda is? If you look very carefully you may spot Alan standing in front of the pagoda in one of the pictures.)

Detail construction of one of the other building in the temple complex. Notice only the ends of the timbers are painted to protect the wood from rot. Otherwise the timbers appear in their natural beauty.

A Magnolia tree along the street along the walk back to our Ryokan.
