Banquet Happoen Tea House and Garden

The ICDE 2005 Banquet was held at the stunning Happoen Gardens under the Cherry Blossom trees.

One of the highlights was hearing the musicans who were playing in the garden as we arrived. It was a particularly exciting feeling as the Shakuhachi player performed Haru No Umi by Michio Miyagi. Shirley had performed this piece on the western flute also in the out doors when she was in High School in 1984. It instantly brought back memories.

Day trip to Nara

Today we visted Nara and the famous Nara Park where deer roam freely.

Shirley fed the deer, with special biscuits designed for their specific dietary needs.
But some of the deer had designs of their own. One cheekily bit Shirley's bottom and another ate our map!!
Todaiji, The worlds largest wooden building (even though it is two-thirds the size of the original which once stood there). The Buddha statue that it houses is Japan's largest.

Around and about in Nara, the ancient, the traditional and the modern.
